UAE-based renewable energy company Masdar and the National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly study opportunities for renewable energy projects.
The collaboration will focus on offshore energy at the beginning and could later extend to green hydrogen production and battery storage technologies, Masdar has said.
The partnership between the two companies, both based in Abu Dhabi, will support UAE's renewable energy strategy. The country aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
"Partnering with Masdar will undoubtedly contribute towards advancing energy transition in the country and open new avenues for clean energy integration and adoption,” said NPCC's chief executive Ahmed Al Dhaheri.
Masdar is already active in the offshore wind power industry. The renewables company owns stakes in the London Array wind farm off the UK coast, and in Hywind Scotland, the world’s first floating offshore wind farm.
Earlier this year, it agreed a partnership with Cosmo Energy Holdings Co. to explore the development of renewable energy initiatives, including offshore wind projects, in Japan.
