Lhyfe, French port to study options for offshore green H2 supply chain

French renewable hydrogen producer Lhyfe SA (EPA:LHYFE) today said it has joined hands with the Nantes – Saint Port in France to study the potential for an offshore hydrogen production supply chain in their home country.

Under a partnership agreement, the duo will seek to identify port areas and facilities that could become home to research and development (R&D) prototypes and meet the requirements for building the infrastructure needed for large-scale offshore hydrogen production. The collaboration will also assess options for transporting the output to the shore and integrating it into the land-based network.

Lhyfe is the originator of the world's first offshore pilot plant for the production of green hydrogen at sea. In September, it kicked off an 18-month test phase for its Sealhyfe platform at the port of Saint-Nazaire. With electricity from the nearby Floatgen wind turbine, it will be able to produce up to 400 kg of renewable hydrogen per day, equivalent to 1 MW of power.

Nantes-based Lhyfe is also considering developing fixed or floating offshore renewable hydrogen production platforms, it noted, adding that it will seek research and development investments as close as possible to energy sources at sea. The French firm estimates that for it, offshore could represent an additional installed capacity of around 3 GW by 2030-2035.
