French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe (EPA:LHYFE) and domestic shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop offshore hydrogen production platforms.
The two companies intend to partner in projects involving renewable hydrogen production with both on-grid and off-grid wind power generation, Lhyfe said on Wednesday. Their offshore schemes will be of at least 100 MW in capacity, to be installed on existing fixed structures, or mounted on seabed foundations or floating platforms.
Under the arrangement, Chantiers de l'Atlantique will design, build and install the platforms, while Lhyfe will take care of the design and operation of the renewable hydrogen production facilities. Their plan is to develop both the green hydrogen chain at sea and in port areas.
The MOU comes on the heels of the collaboration between Lhyfe and Chantiers de l'Atlantique in the SEM-REV pilot project for offshore hydrogen production off the coast of Saint-Nazaire, western France. The demo facility will be launched in September.
Lhyfe, which in May completed its EUR-110-million (USD 115m) initial public offering (IPO) on Euronext Paris, is currently developing 93 green hydrogen projects across Europe totalling more than 4.8 GW.
