Kyocera wraps up 500-kW solar system for Wacoal in Japan

(SeeNews) - Feb 22, 2012 - Japanese electronic equipment firm Kyocera Corp (TYO:6971) said Monday it had completed a 500-kW rooftop solar power facility in Japan's Shiga prefecture for a unit of lingerie maker Wacoal Holdings Corp (TYO:3591).

The company installed some 2,400 of its anti-dust modules on the roof of Wacoal Distribution Corp's western Japan distribution hub. The modules are specifically tailored for installations at a flat or low angle.

Kyocera calculates that the solar system would generate around 443,000 kWh a year, expects to cover a third of the distribution centre's electricity needs. In addition, having a solar power system on the roof will allow Wacoal to use the centre as an evacuation site in the event of a natural disaster.
