Kyocera starts selling electric bicycle recharging stations
(ADPnews) - Nov 18, 2010 - Japanese electronic equipment provider Kyocera Corp (TYO:6971) on Wednesday said it had launched on the Japanese market electric bicycle recharging stations equipped with the company's solar modules.
The stations, developed by the company and its unit Kyocera Communication Systems Co Ltd, use the sun's energy to produce power during the day, but are also linked to the power grid to keep operating in cloudy weather and at night. The stations have conventional outlets that can be used in case of blackouts or emergencies.
Kyocera is looking for unconventional ways to use solar power. Apart from the usual residential and commercial-scale solar power production, the company has been producing solar modules for cars, parking lot shading structures, boats, etc.
