Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) announced on Thursday it is to build a 1-MW solar park in Kyoto prefecture.
The start of construction is planned for February 2018. The Keihanna Second Solar Power Plant, as it is named, is to commence operations by September of the same year.
The photovoltaic (PV) array in the city of Seika is to spread over an area of 1 hectare (2,47 acres) and it will become the company's 11th solar power plant, Kansai Electric said. It is expected to produce some 1.4 million kWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the annual demand of about 450 local households and offset around 750 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
The plant is being developed by Kansai's subsidiary Kanden Energy Solution Co Inc, the company noted.
