The proposed 500-MW Turkish photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing plant of Hanwha Q Cells (NASDAQ:HQCL) and Kalyon Enerji Yatirimlari AS plan will be situated in Ankara, with production set to be launched by end-2018.
Citing Kalyon Holding’s president Murtaza Ata, the Daily Sabah on Sunday wrote that the facility will be constructed within the capital city’s Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ). Its initial capacity will be 500 MW but it can be later expanded to 1,000 MW. Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in November, the president added.
According to the report, the manufacturing capacity will be set up for a total investment of USD 450 million (EUR 380.8m) and will consist of three separate units. One of them will be for making PV ignots and wafer, another one for solar cells, while the third plant will produce solar panels.
Hanwha Q Cells and Kalyon Enerji in March won a tender for a 1,000 MW solar park in Karapinar, Konya province, and also unveiled plans to build 500 MW of fully integrated PV manufacturing capacity in the country. Building local production capacity was a condition in the tender in order to stimulate investments in the domestic supply. The Turkish energy ministry Monday announced at the time that the consortium had won with a bid of USD 0.0699 per kWh.
