Dec 6, 2012 - After entering the renewable energy market in the summer, John Laing yesterday awarded a development job to an affiliate of Moser Baer Clean Energy Ltd for 15 MW of solar farms in Cornwall, southwestern England.
The UK infrastructure specialist is a 100% investor in the three sites, it said on Wednesday. The facilities are currently under construction near St Austell and are expected to become operational in the spring, supplying to the grid enough power for some 4,500 homes a year.
The agreement comes after John Laing acquired two operational solar parks totalling 9.8 MW in Sussex and Hampshire, southern England in August. John Laing's head of environmental infrastructure Andy Harmer said the three solar projects had established the company's position in the solar energy market and expanded its knowledge so that it could look at other renewable energy opportunities both in the UK and abroad.
Daylighting Power Ltd, an affiliate of Moser Baer Clean Energy which is a unit of Moser Baer India (BOM:517140), is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, as well as the operations and maintenance (O&M) contractor for the solar farms.
