JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) and Heraeus Photovoltaics will partner in the development of new generation Super photovoltaic (PV) cells with increased efficiency and lower costs.
The subsidiary of Germany’s Heraeus Holding GmbH said on Monday that the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with the Chinese solar manufacturer will enable it to “accelerate the update” of its silver paste products in order to boost PV cell efficiency by 0.2% per year. Additionally, it will benefit from JinkoSolar’s research and development (R&D) efforts in efficient black silicon cells and n-type cells.
As part of the collaboration, the two companies will also explore energy markets along regions from China's Belt and Road Initiative, whose goal is to strengthen China’s economic ties with Eurasian countries.
This is the third partnership between the two companies since 2015. Thanks to the cooperation, Heraeus Photovoltaics said it has developed two new front-side silver pastes and tailor-made products for mono PERC and black silicon cells for JinkoSolar, thus boosting the efficiency of the Chinese firm’s PV cells by over 0.3%.
In a separate announcement on Tuesday, JinkoSolar unveiled a new Alternating current (AC) module solution developed with US microinverter maker Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH). The so-called Eagle AC is made of JinkoSolar's high-efficiency monocrystalline PERC PV module and Enphase Energy’s IQ6 microinvter. It is suitable for the residential market, the Chinese firm said.
