JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) is to build a virtual power plant (VPP) in Japan in collaboration with local oil refiner Eneos Corp, the solar module maker said on Thursday.
The project will consist of JinkoSolar's modules installed on the rooftops of several of Eneos's gas stations and connected to form a VPP. This will be JinkoSolar's first VPP in the country.
The solar installations will be connected to a storage system in clusters, making battery control optimisation more efficient and allowing for re-utilisation of the solar power generation on demand.
"This co-operation shows that traditional oil and gas energy companies are gradually transforming their business models and expanding the use of renewable energy," JinkoSolar CEO Kangping Chen commented.
