Japanese photovoltaic (PV) projects developer Renova Inc (TYO:9519) announced today that it started commercial operations at a 48-MW solar power plant in Iwate prefecture.
The Karumai West Solar Power Station, as the PV plant is named, is the firm's 11th large-scale renewable energy park in operation across Japan. It has an estimated annual output of about 50 million kWh, enough to supply 15,000 local households.
The plant, which is located in the town of Karumai, will operate under a feed-in tariff (FiT) of JPY 36 (USD 0.33/EUR 0.29) per kWh. Its annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) are estimated to reach JPY 1.4 billion, the company said.
With the start of commercial operation of Karumai West, Renova's total operational renewable capacity reaches 252.5 MW, it noted.
