Oct 29, 2013 - Japanese firm JAG Energy Co said Monday it would construct a 13-MW solar system on Honshu island, southwestern Japan.
JAG Energy, a unit of green infrastructure company Japan Asia Group Ltd (JAG), will initiate building works at the site in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture in February 2014. The photovoltaic (PV) plant will use modules by Japan’s Toshiba Corp (TYO:6502) and is to be put on stream in March 2015.
JAG Energy did not provide any financial details on the project.
Once completed, the solar power facility will be able to generate enough electricity to supply about 3,640 households per year, according to the developer’s calculations. Its output will be sold to utility Tokyo Electric Power (TYO:9501) under the existing feed-in tariff (FiT) programme in Japan.
In the weekend, daily the Nikkei reported that the Japanese government plans to increase the FiTs for power generated from offshore wind parks and once again cut rates for solar power from April 2014. Early this year it approved a 10% cut to JPY 37.8 (USD 0.39/EUR 0.28) per kWh as of April 1, 2013, which will now go further down.
(JPY 100 = USD 1.024/EUR 0.742)
