UK hydrogen energy solutions maker ITM Power (LON:ITM) on Wednesday said it will study the feasibility of manufacturing renewable hydrogen electrolysers in Western Australia with a AUD-225,000 (USD 141,000/EUR 145,000) investment from the state government.
The company was selected for the task after the Western Australian government invited a shortlist of electrolyser manufacturers to present an outline for a business case for electrolyser assembly and manufacture.
The state government is partnering with ITM Power and Linde Engineering in the AUD-450,000 study to develop a business case for electrolyser production in the state.
"Funding this feasibility study is the first step toward manufacturing components for renewable hydrogen within the State. We want to be part of the full technology story in hydrogen,” said Hydrogen Industry Minister Alannah MacTiernan.
Electrolyser manufacturing is a key part of the Western Australian Renewable Hydrogen Strategy.
The government said that global demand for electrolysers capacity is forecast to grow dramatically from 0.3 GW now to nearly 850 GW by 2030 and almost 3,600 GW by 2050. Western Australia could have up to 100 GW of green hydrogen production capacity by the end of the decade.
