December 24 (Renewables Now) - Italy will hold call number eight for renewable energy on January 31, 2022, according to the new auction calendar that was published by the Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) on Thursday.

With the new call, the agency will make available all power that was not assigned in previous rounds and if the total is still not contracted, the GSE will open a new tender procedure on May 31, 2022.

The upcoming 8th call is scheduled to close on March 2, while the results are expected to be published by May 31, 2022. An eventual 9th call will follow a similar timeline – 30 days for the closing and 90 days for the results to be announced.

Italy launched the 7th call in late September and the publication of the results is planned for January 28, 2022.

So far, all six concluded rounds have been undersubscribed. The 6th call, in particular, ended with 593.3 MW of awards in the 1-MW-plus category. Wind and solar got almost equal shares, securing nearly 296 MW and 298 MW, respectively.
