The photovoltaic (PV) technology of Italian company Greenflex Energy Ltd will be installed at a bus shelter in Italy under an initial trial contract with Italian out of home advertising agency Media One srl.
The trial is aimed at using Greenflex's technology to power digital advertising billboards at outdoor bus shelters. The first installation will take place in the province of Rimini in September. If this is successful, Greenflex expects to supply its flexible PV material for about 20 additional bus shelters along the Rimini-Riccione bus line in October. If all goes well with the initial projects, the firm sees an opportunity to supply its solar equipment for another 100 bus shelters in the area.
The trial contract, secured in a competitive tender process, was announced today by Verditek Plc (LON:VDTK), which owns 51% of Greenflex. Verditek, a holding company newly listed on London's AIM market, says its solar business has two 25-MWp manufacturing lines in San Marino that produce PV building material.
Commenting on the announcement, Verditek chief executive Theo Chapman said that if the opportunity for a further 100 bus shelters is released, this would establish a meaningful order book for Greenflex.
