Solar is growing rapidly across Africa, with installed capacity recently surpassing 20 GW, according to AFSIA, although its data may be an underestimate of real capacities. While this remains a modest part of the global solar market, the technology can make a difference in tackling power deficits and improving energy access across the continent. In an interview with Renewables Now, the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA) said that storage, which is “growing at a light speed” in Africa, is changing the solar landscape. It also commented on the fastest-developing markets and the potential for local manufacturing.
