Interservice Uzunovi to build 5-MW solar park in northeastern Bulgaria

(ADPnews) - Nov 17, 2010 - Bulgarian furniture and household appliances importer Interservice Uzunovi Plc said today it had started construction of a 5-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in northeastern Bulgaria, with total investments of EUR 12 million (USD 16m).

Funds for the project have been provided by Bulgarian MKB Unionbank. Construction of the solar park, which will be built in two phases, kicked off today. The first 2.5-MWp phase is to come on stream in February 2011, while the second one will be completed two months later, the company said. The farm will be built by Bulgaria’s renewable energy firm Solarpro Holding, a spin-off of mineral extracting and processing company Kaolin (BSE:6K1) with Sharp thin-film panels.

The solar facility is located in the village of Ravna Gora, near Varna. Solar radiation rates in the region are 4.25 kW/sq m a day, while annual radiation reached 1,450-1,500 kWh/sq m.
