Infosys of India eyes 55 MW of PV by end-2016 - report

India's Infosys Ltd (BOM:500209) aims to meet about one-third of its electricity needs with solar power by installing 55 MW of photovoltaic (PV) plants by the end of 2016, Business Standard said Wednesday, citing a company official.

In line with its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, the IT services firm will commission 15 MW of solar arrays at its campuses this December, including a 7-MW PV system in Hyderabad. The remaining 40 MW will be constructed next year, executive vice-president and head of infrastructure, facilities, administration, Ramdas Kamath, was quoted as saying.

In order to power all of its facilities entirely with renewables, Infosys will need to build 178 MW more, according to the report. Last year, the IT firm consumed 257 GWh, around 30% of which came from wind parks or hydropower plants (HPP).
