India's Odisha to call tender for 48 MW of solar capacity - report
Dec 30, 2013 - Indian utility Gridco Ltd, the firm responsible for power supply in the state of Odisha, will soon launch tenders for 48 MW of solar power capacity, daily The Business Standard said Monday.
Contracting additional solar capacity will help Gridco, former Grid Corporation of Orissa Ltd, meet its renewable purchase obligation (RPO). According to the newspaper, the Odisha power supplier needs to source from renewables 6% of its energy. Its solar RPO is 0.20%.
Currently there are 13 MW of operational solar plants in the state, while Gridco has signed deals that are to bring more solar electricity. Earlier this month Business Standard said that the Green Energy Development Corp of Odisha Ltd (Gedcol) would construct a 50-MW solar park for the state’s energy department.
Odisha aims to have 80 MW of installed solar power capacity by 2014-2015.
