India looks to boost its renewable energy cooperation with US

Jul 20, 2011 - India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced that the country was seeking to expand its cooperation with the United States into new areas within the renewable energy sector.

Under the Indo-US Energy Dialogue, the two countries have already agreed to cooperate in the areas of solar energy, wind power and biofuels. The proposed new areas include renewable energy storage, small hydropower and technology transfer, the ministry said.

Daniel B Poneman, deputy secretary at the US Department of Energy, and Farooq Abdullah, India's Minister of New and Renewable Energy, discussed a number of cooperation opportunities within the sector at a meeting in New Delhi earlier this week.

A week ago, India started another renewable energy initiative, aimed at enhancing its cooperation with African nations.
