Oct 29, 2014 - Market analytics firm IHS Inc (NYSE:IHS) said yesterday it has agreed to buy sector player NPD Group Inc’s DisplaySearch and Solarbuzz businesses, without providing financial details.
The acquisition is expected to make the buyer a global provider of displays research and “top provider of solar market information,” said Scott Key, IHS’ president and CEO. More specifically, the addition of Solarbuzz will allow IHS to develop new offerings in the solar market, he added.
The two target groups will be integrated into the IHS Technology business. NPD, in turn, will concentrate on expanding its retail, distributor and consumer tracking services and offer new solutions.
DisplaySearch focuses on Asia-based primary research in display technology, offering forecasting and advisory services. Solarbuzz, on the other hand, is engaged in the provision of market intelligence, research and forecasting solutions for the solar market, with a major focus on the photovoltaic (PV) supply chain.
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is seen to be wrapped up in two weeks.
