A company managed by Lithuanian green utility Ignitis Group, or AB Ignitis grupe, has finished installing a 3-MW solar power plant near Elektrenai in Obeniai.
The new facility built by Ignitis Gamyba has been connected to one of 1 MW that has been operating since the summer and the two now form the largest solar park in Lithuania and the Baltic States, according to a company statement. Ignitis notes that in the event that demand for remote solar power plants continues to grow, the plant can be expanded further to 6.5 MW.
The 4 MW of combined capacity will produce up to 100 GWh of electricity and cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 74,000 tonnes during the project’s entire life cycle.
The new plant is linked to the Ignitis Saules parkai platform, which allows residents to purchase or rent a part of a solar park offered by any developer.
