April 30 (Renewables Now) - Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) has signed an agreement with Renault SA (EPA:RNO) to implement a number of energy solutions for the French car maker’s factories in Spain and Portugal over the next three years.
The agreement includes a long-term supply of green energy on the part of Iberdrola. The power purchase agreement (PPA) will enable Renault to meet 100% of its electricity needs in Spain with renewables, Iberdrola said Thursday.
Apart from brokering the green power supply, the partners will focus on reducing Renault Iberia’s CO2 emissions through projects such as heat electrification and energy efficiency through Big Data. Iberdrola is also to evaluate the possibility of setting up on-site solar arrays and wind turbines at Renault factories, explore vehicle-to-building, electric mobility and charging solutions, among others.
The Renault group is committed to cutting down emissions from its factories worldwide by 50% by 2030.
