Hyundai Motor Co (KRX:005380) today announced that the first 10 units of its fuel cell heavy-duty truck XCIENT Fuel Cell are on their way to Switzerland.
The company plans to ship a total of 50 of the fuel cell trucks to the European country this year and it will start handing over the trucks to commercial fleet customers in September. By 2025, Hyundai plans to roll out some 1,600 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks.
XCIENT runs on a 190-kW hydrogen fuel cell system. The driving range per charge for the truck is about 400 km (249 miles), while refuelling takes between 8 and 20 minutes.
The trucks will be leased to commercial truck operations by Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM), a joint venture between Hyundai and Swiss company H2 Energy.
