Hyundai Motor goes solar in Asan with 10-MW system
Dec 23, 2013 - South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor (SEO:5380) today said it had put online a 10-MW solar system on the roofs of four buildings at its Asan manufacturing complex at home.
The company partnered with Korea Midland Power Co on the installation of some 40,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules at the plants. The annual solar power output is estimated at 11.5 million kWh. At the same time, the solar panels on the roofs will avoid 5,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission per year and will help reduce temperatures inside the buildings, thus cutting Hyundai Motor’s use of air conditioning.
Hyundai is to sell the produced power to Korea Electric Power Corp (KRX:015760).
