The Hungarian government on Thursday said the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) will launch the country's second auction for renewable power projects in July.
Peter Kaderjak, state secretary for energy and climate policy, said the auction will have an annual budget of HUF 800 million (USD 2.6m/EUR 2.3m) and will look to sign contracts for about 390 GWh a year.
In the category of projects up to 1 MW, developers can apply for about 40 GWh. The rest will go for larger projects, with the size in this category to be increased to 50 MW from 20 MW previously. The same developers can bid for up to 15 GWh annually in the first category and 175 GWh annually in the second one.
The auction is part of the government's METAR-KAT renewables incentive programme, with a total of five tenders expected to be announced by August 2022.
In the first auction which concluded in March, the government awarded 71 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and a landfill gas installation with a combined capacity of 131.9 MW capacity. Bidding prices fell as low as HUF 21.2/kWh in the small systems category. The lowest bid for large-scale installations was of HUF 20.2/kWh.
