(SeeNews) - Oct 30, 2013 - Honda Motor Co (TYO:7267) said its Brazilian unit started building a 27-MW wind farm, seen to cost BRL 100 million (USD 45.8m/EUR 33.3m), at its vehicle assembly plant in Rio Grande do Sul, local energy news site Jornal da Energia reported yesterday.<br /> According to the head of Honda Automoveis do Brasil Ltda (HAB), Carlos Eige, the company plans to install nine turbines at its site in the city of Xangri-la in the southern Rio Grande do Sul state. Estimated to produce about 95,000 MWh of electricity annually, the facility is scheduled to come on stream in September 2014. The wind farm is seen to meet completely the needs of the plant, thus reducing its electricity costs by 45%. The surplus production, if any, will be offered on the free electricity market, Eige added.<br /> Also, the company is studying the installation of similar wind farms at other Honda plants in the country, such as the factories in Manaus and Sao Paulo.<br /> (BRL 1.0 = USD 0.459/EUR 0.334)
