Hilco to auction Energy Conversion Devices IP on Oct 8
Sep 26, 2012 - US company Hilco Streambank said Monday it would hold a tender on October 8 for intellectual property (IP) assets of US bankrupt alternative energy technology firm Energy Conversion Devices Inc and its unit Uni-Solar.
The IP includes thin-film flexible solar technology and more specifically patents and trade secrets for continuous feed, flexible substrate chemical deposition and related manufacturing processes. The technology was originally tailored for thin-film photovoltaics (PV) but can also be used for copper indium gallium (di)selenide (CIGS) production and other chemical deposition processes, Hilco said.
Apart from the solar patents category, the tender will include two other. In the fuel cell patents and bioreformation patents categories Hilco will sell Energy Conversion IP related to hydrogen extraction and storage and alkaline fuel cells.
On February 14, Energy Conversion filed for bankruptcy protection in Michigan under Chapter 11 and unveiled plans to divest its assets.
