Hearing on SolarWorld-Hemlock case delayed by 2 weeks

German photovoltaics (PVs) maker SolarWorld (ETR:SWV) has gained more time to reach an out-of-court settlement over its dispute with US polysilicon supplier Hemlock Semiconductor as the latest hearing has been postponed by two weeks.

CEO Frank Asbeck confirmed this at SolarWorld’s annual general meeting, saying that the new date for the hearing is June 23. This means that the court will decide on the matter in August, at the earliest.

Hemlock filed a lawsuit against SolarWorld in 2013, seeking about USD 770 million (EUR 681m) worth of damages. The US company is suing its client because it cancelled a polysilicon supply contract.

In November 2015, a US court dismissed one of SolarWorld’s main defenses, more specifically its claims that the agreement was invalid because it breached EU antitrust laws.
