German energy solutions company GP JOULE GmbH, Toyota Motor Corp (TYO:7203) and Portuguese bus manufacturer CaetanoBus have agreed to jointly develop integrated hydrogen solutions to drive the expansion of green hydrogen mobility.
The partners will work together to develop solutions for alternative drive technology in vehicle fleets and set up local hydrogen ecosystems for a variety of mobility applications with the goal to promote the decarbonisation of transport.
The partnership will initially focus on cars, buses and light commercial vehicles and could be later expanded to include trucks.
Thanks to their complementary expertise, the three companies cover the entire value chain of hydrogen mobility from the production of green hydrogen to its distribution and refuelling infrastructure to its use in various vehicle segments.
The joint work is meant to accelerate and intensify the use of green hydrogen on the way to carbon-neutral mobility. This will gradually reduce the cost of hydrogen and its infrastructure and thus lay the ground for many future business models, according to Toyota Deutschland's President Andre Schmidt.
As part of the initiative, GP JOULE will supply green hydrogen to hydrogen refuelling stations. In June, the company ordered a 2-MW electrolyser for a green hydrogen project at Bremerhaven to supply a filling station at the depot of local bus company Bremerhaven Bus.
