German energy solutions company GP JOULE GmbH has started building a 90-MW solar farm in the state of Brandenburg which will be part of the Lausitz energy park with a planned total solar capacity of 300 MW.
The Klettwitz Nord solar park will consist of 183,000 panels installed on a former spoil heap in the eastern German village of Klettwitz, GP JOULE said on Wednesday. The facility will be put into operation in the spring of 2022.
Along with Klettwitz Nord, the Lausitz energy park will include two more solar farms. Construction works on the Klettwitz Sued farm will start at the beginning of next year, while the planning of the Hochkippe Sallgast park is progressing. The three facilities will have a combined capacity of 300 MW and the clean electricity produced by the energy park will be fed into the public grid, supplied to direct consumers and used for the generation of green hydrogen for the local industry and e-mobility.
The project, touted as one of Germany's largest solar facilities, was approved by the local municipal authorities in December 2020. It is owned by GP JOULE in cooperation with project developer Steinbock EE and renewables investment company Terravent Investments.
