Goldpoly hooks to grid 100-MW solar park in Gansu

(SeeNews) - Jun 17, 2013 - Hong Kong-based solar cell maker Goldpoly New Energy (HKG:0686) said today it had connected to the grid a 100-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park in China’s Gansu province.

The Gansu Jiayuguan solar park is owned by China Merchants New Energy Holdings Ltd, a wholly-owned unit of Goldpoly. It successfully exported power to the grid for the first time on June 15.

Actually, Goldpoly just recently completed its previously-announced purchase of the 92.15% stake it did not own in China Merchants, which is a solar project developer. Goldpoly bought the remaining interest in the firm for about HKD 2.12 billion (USD 273m/EUR 205m) in shares and bonds. The sellers were China Merchants New Energy Group Ltd and polysilicon and wafers maker GCL-Poly Energy Holdings (HKG:3800). The whole transaction was closed on June 10.
