June 30 (Renewables Now) - German renewables developer Goldbeck Solar GmbH has started the construction of a 25-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant on the roofs of Dutch logistics company DHG in Rotterdam.

The Smartlog Maasvlakte solar array will be set up on ten roofs with a combined area of 210,000 sq m (251,158 sq yd). The logistic centre is located on a reclaimed headland in the port area of the city.

The buildings were constructed by the Dutch subsidiary of Goldbeck Bau in a way that enables the use of their roofs for solar energy, the German company said in a statement.

Goldbeck Solar is installing the solar systems on behalf of Amsterdam-based Sunrock.

The plant should be completed in the course of 2022.

The project is interesting not only because of its size but also because of its location as the North Sea climate with lots of wind, sand and salty air poses challenges for the solar modules, said Tobias Friedrich, Head of Goldbeck Solar Netherlands.
