GGE Chile files EIA for geothermal exploration of Puchuldiza Sur 2
(ADPnews) - Dec 30, 2010 - GGE Chile SpA, the local subsidiary of US-based geothermal company GeoGlobal Energy LLC (GGE), Monday filed an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for geothermal exploration works in its concession area Puchuldiza Sur 2, located in the northern Tarapaca region.
The works, estimated at USD 35 million (EUR 26.4m), will include a creation of a geological map and various researches, such as geophysical, geochemical and hydrological analyses, which will reveal the potential exploration wells.
GGE Chile expects the project to start in July 2011.
In early 2009, the Chilean mining ministry held a tender for geothermal energy exploration, which auctioned the Puchuldiza Sur 1 and Puchuldiza Sur 2 areas, in order to increase the country's geothermal potential for electricity generation.
