Gestamp Wind to launch steel plate cutting unit in Brazil by end-2012
Aug 15, 2012 - Gestamp Wind, the wind tower producer of Spanish engineering firm Corporacion Gestamp, will launch a steel plate cutting unit in Brazil's northeastern Pernambuco state between October and December this year.
The company has invested a total BRL 30 million (USD 14.8m/EUR 12.1m) in the plant, Brazilian media reported yesterday, citing Paulo Coimbra, the local operations manager of Gestamp Wind.
Currently, Gestamp Wind buys steel plates from Brazilian miner and steel maker Usiminas (SAO:USIM5).
Coimbra also announced that Gestamp will open next year a flanges factory in Pernambuco which will supply not only wind power companies but also the oil and gas sector. This project's budget has not yet been defined yet.
