GES to build 263-MW wind farm in Egypt

Global Energy Services (GES), a Spanish construction company that serves the wind and solar sectors, announced it is building a 263-MW wind farm located in Egypt.

The wind farm, which will be built 25 km off Ras Gharib, the northernmost of the municipalities in the Red Sea Governorate, is comprised of 125 turbines of 2.1 MW each. The three phases of the project will be executed during the rest of this year and the first semester of 2019, GES said.

According to the company, this wind park is the first to be built in the country under the build, own and operate (BOO) model. The wind facility's output will be sold under a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with the Egyptian Energy Transmission Company (EETC).

At the end of 2017, Egypt had 810 MW of installed wind power generation capacity. There are a number of projects in progress currently.
