Solar power systems with a total capacity of 731.33 MW and only 106.62 MW of onshore wind turbines were connected to the power grid in Germany in March, data published by the Federal Network Agency shows.
New solar capacity in March significantly exceeded the levels from the previous months, surging by 71% from February. Unlike solar, newly deployed wind power continued slowing down, falling from 118.75 MW in the previous month.
Unlike previous months, less than half of the new solar capacity, or 348.03 MW, featured plants connected to the grid outside of EEG tenders. Of these, only 9.2 MW were ground-mounted systems.
Since the start of the year, Germany has added almost 1.58 GW of solar and 459.87 MW of onshore wind capacity, while new biomass plants totalled 9.73 MW.
