Solar power plants totalling 418.8 MW went online across Germany in January while the newly deployed onshore wind capacity continued to increase and reached 234.1 MW, the Federal Network Agency said on Monday.
Most of the new solar installations, or 261.36 MW, were plants connected to the grid outside of EEG tenders and only 12.7 MW of these were ground-mounted sites.
The expansion of onshore wind power continued to recover in January for a third consecutive month, following the installation of 122.9 MW and 152.9 MW in November and December, respectively.
New biomass-powered plants with a combined output of 5.7 MW were connected to the grid in the first month of the year which exceeded the figure from December when only 1.59 MW of new biomass capacity was deployed.
Last year, Germany boosted the solar capacity installed across the country by 5.26 GW while the onshore wind turbines that went online in 2021 totalled nearly 1.86 GW.
