June 30 (Renewables Now) - Germany connected 236.9 MW of onshore wind and 548.13 MW of new solar capacity to the grid in May, the Federal Network Agency said on Thursday.

The newly deployed solar capacity in May exceeded the level of the previous month when solar systems of about 518 MW went online across the country. The addition of onshore wind power continued to rebound, registering the highest monthly level since the start of the year after hitting a low of 106.6 MW in March.

About two-thirds of the new solar capacity, or 365.77 MW, were plants connected to the grid outside of EEG tenders. Of these, only 8.14 MW were ground-mounted stations.

In the first five months of the year, Germany put into operation biomass power plants with a total capacity of 10.6 MW. In May alone, the new biomass capacity totalled 740 kW.

Capacity in MW Onshore wind power Solar power
