Oct 4, 2013 - Solar and wind electricity production dropped by 2.1% to 56.2 billion kWh in the first nine months of 2013, German renewable energy institute IWR said today citing figures by the Leipzig energy exchange.
Wind energy produced 8.4% less electricity with 29.9 billion kWh. Solar power output, however, increased 6.2% to 26.2 billion kWh.
Wind power production rose in September by 12.4% to 3.4 billion kWh compared with figures for the same month the previous year. Solar power production fell to 2.7 billion kWh, which is a 9% decrease from September 2012.
Base load electricity prices for large consumers also declined in the period January to September by 12%, with an average price of EUR 0.0379 (USD 0.0515) per kWh. The price in September alone was EUR 0.0417, which is only a 6.6% decrease year-on-year.
Despite the declining green power production and electricity prices for the industry, the renewable energy levy for consumers is expected to increase by 15% in 2014, IWR said. According to IWR's head Norbert Allnoch, there is a design flaw in the renewable energy act (EEG) marketing mechanism which envisages the exemptions for the industry to be compensated by the surcharge paid by consumers.
