Nov 15, 2011 - German solar power solutions provider Manz AG (FRA:M5Z) announced today that it had signed a letter of intent to acquire the copper indium gallium (di)selenide (CIGS) solar modules production line of local photovoltaic (PV) systems provider Wuerth Solar.
Manz will integrate Wuerth Solar's production site, including a total of 118 employees, into its own group. Thus, Wuerth Solar will focus on its core business of selling photovoltaic systems, complete photovoltaic plants and turnkey solar power parks.
The CIGS technology licences will also be transferred to Manz on an unrestricted basis and the 10-year licensing agreement signed in 2010 will be replaced by the new contract. The licence gave Manz exclusive rights to use Wuerth Solar's CIGS production technology and was granted access to the research results of the centre for solar energy and hydrogen research (ZSW).
According to Manz, the CIGS technology has the potential to deliver lower cost per watt than the other technologies, thereby optimally serving current market demands.
The announced acquisition is expected to be completed by early 2012, Manz said.
