(SeeNews) – Sep 6, 2011 – Juwi Solar GmbH, a subsidiary of German renewable projects developer Juwi Group, has put into operation an off-grid solar park in Tsumkwe, northern Namibia, the group said on Monday.
The project has a total capacity of 200 kW and a battery storage of 1 MW. It also includes three diesel generators, which can be used at night if the battery is low. The park consists of 918 polycrystalline solar modules.
The hybrid solar farm will supply all public buildings and about 100 household with eco-friendly energy and save Tsumkwe 25% of its electricity costs.
Juwi and its partner Alternative Energy Systems (Alensy) installed the solar system for six weeks. The project was planned and supervised by Desert Research Foundation Namibia’ s (DRFN) and will be operated by local power company Nam Power.
