Australia's Genex Power Ltd (ASX:GNX) could develop a wind farm of up to 150 MW at its Kidston Renewable Energy Hub in North Queensland, in what would be a world first integration of solar, wind and pumped storage hydro technology.
Genex's managing director Michael Addison said the proposed wind farm should give diversity across three renewable energy sources at one site, potentially enabling the company to provide firm renewable energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The developer announced on Thursday it has signed a binding heads of agreement with local landholders with the exclusive option to develop a wind farm which would be Stage 3 of the hub. Genex now plans to launch a feasibility study into constructing the wind farm that may take up to 18 months. The wind project is expected to connect into the National Electricity Market (NEM) through the proposed 275-kV transmission line at Kidston that will be developed as part of the Kidston Stage 2 projects.
The renewables hub currently includes a 50-MW solar project in operation and two Stage 2 projects -- a 270-MW solar scheme and a 250-MW pumped storage hydro development, that are both targeting financial close this year.
