The renewables arm of Spanish utility Gas Natural Fenosa (BME:GAS) announced last week that Gas Natural Fenosa Renovables has started construction of a 49-MW photovoltaic (PV) farm.
The La Nava solar park, as it is named, is the company's first to be built in the province of Ciudad Real, but the second within the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha. Its total cost is estimated at some EUR 34 million (USD 42m).
Comprised of 155,520 solar modules, the facility should be completed by the end of this year. Once operational, La Nava is expected to generate around 100 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 40,000 homes and offset 89,495 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
Gas Natural also has other green projects in its Castilla-La Mancha portfolio, including nine wind schemes that generated 493 GWh in 2017. Currently, the firm has 1,147 MW of installed renewable energy capacity in Spain.
