Iberdrola promises EUR-3bn investment into green hydrogen
May 25, 2022 15:50 CESTMay 13 (Renewables Now) - State-owned natural gas processor and distributor GAIL India Ltd (BOM:532155) will build a 10-MW green hydrogen production facility powered by renewables at one of its locations in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The company said in a bourse filing on Thursday it has awarded a contract for the plant’s construction without disclosing the name of its partner.
According to GAIL, the project is set to create one of India’s proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers. The facility is planned to be located within the gas processor’s complex in Guna district and will be capable of producing around 4.3 tonnes of green hydrogen daily.
The plant is due to begin operations by November 2023. No specific details were provided about the renewable power supply.
GAIL India says on its website it owns 130 MW of renewable energy parks, of which 118 MW wind and 11 MW solar.
Earlier this year, the Indian firm started blending hydrogen with natural gas supplied through the network of its joint venture with HPCL.
