April 1 (Renewables Now) - Spain-based firm Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has started generating power at its 115-MW (AC) Metz Solar Farm that is still being assembled in New South Wales, Australia.
The renewables developer, part of Saudi Arabia's Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, said on Thursday that it expects the photovoltaic (PV) park to reach full capacity over the coming months.
The Metz plant is currently in advanced stages of construction, and should be able to produce around 320,000 MWh per year, once fully up and running. It is set to operate under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Australian power retailer Snowy Hydro.
The solar farm will stretch across 248 hectares (612.8 acres) of land in a rural area. Beon Energy Solutions, a unit of Victoria Power Networks, is serving as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
