Austrian solar inverter maker Fronius International GmbH this week said it has opened an office in San Francisco, California, expanding its presence in the US.
The new location houses product management, research and development (R&D) and technical sales.
Fronius stepped into the US solar market in 2004 and has a full manufacturing and testing facility at its local headquarters in Portage, Indiana.
"The new office in the Bay Area is an important next step in our ambitious growth plan for the US," Tristan Kreager, director of solar energy at Fronius USA, said, noting that the Bay Area and the Silicon Valley were a hub for solar innovations and technology partnerships. "Local production, R&D and Product Management, as well as excellent US-based Sales, Service, and Support are key to our long-term growth strategy in the United States," Kreager said.
Fronius supplies inverters for the Powerwall home energy storage product of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which recently agreed to acquire solar panel installer SolarCity (NASDAQ:SCTY). Tesla founder Elon Musk, meanwhile, said this month Tesla has plans to make its own inverters.
