Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (ETR:FRA) plans to source up to 350 GWh of offshore wind power output per year to meet the climate targets of the Frankfurt airport.
The airport operator said today it will procure the needed electricity through a power purchase agreement (PPA) and it is looking for an offshore wind farm operator to strike a deal no later than 2025.

Wind power alone would help the airport run on around 85% renewable power from 2025. Fraport seeks to raise its renewables share to about 94% by the end of the decade, the company said.
The airport aims to cut its annual CO2 emissions to 80,000 metric tonnes from 170,000 metric tonnes by 2030 and be emission-free by 2050.
To meet its targets, Fraport is currently building an on-site photovoltaic (PV) system on the rooftop of a new cargo hall. Once installed, the arrays are expected to generate over 1.5 million kWh each year, which would be enough to meet the power needs of more than 450 four-person households annually, according to Fraport.
The Frankfurt airport operator has also committed to building a PV plant atop a parking garage of the new Terminal 3.
