December 17 (Renewables Now) - French solar power company Ciel & Terre International has signed a deal with Principia to cooperate in the development of floating photovoltaic (PV) systems.

While Ciel & Terre is a specialist in floating solar platforms and has deployed over 300 MW around the world to date, its new partner has expertise in engineering floating foundations for both solar and offshore wind projects. Principia is expected to share its knowledge of mooring system, floating offshore structure and cable design, according to the announcement.

Ciel & Terre will use Principia’s support to accelerate the development of its platform as the company prepares to tender on "very large" projects.

Benoit Chasse, business development and project manager for Principia, commented that he expects the floating solar market to become huge in the coming years and giant floating projects to emerge.

“We have seen in the past, especially in the offshore wind industry, that an integrated wind and wave design approach could bring cost down by removing unnecessary conservatism. I am very confident that floating solar farms will also benefit from this innovative design approach with significant cost savings,” he stated.
