Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced today that the company has already installed more than half of the panels that will add a total of 596 MW of solar power generating capacity in its home state by early next year.
As previously announced, the company is building eight 74.5-MW solar parks in six different Florida counties. These plants will consist of a total of 2.5 million solar panels and FPL said today that over 1.25 million units have already been deployed.
The eight projects are part of the company’s larger plan to add more than 10 million solar panels in the period 2016-2023, equal to a total capacity exceeding 2,300 MW. Last year, FPL added 225 MW to its portfolio.
This year alone FPL is investing almost USD 1 billion (EUR 844m) in local solar power.
"Together, these eight new plants are projected to generate an estimated net lifetime savings of more than USD 100 million for our customers – over and above the cost of construction,” said FPL president and CEO Eric Silagy.
